THREE FINE FAIRIES
Three fine fairies fighting on the lily-pond,
Not enough lily to fully go fully round.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
A fine sunny day for the dwellers in the lily-pond,
But for the quarrel of the fairies going round and round.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
Frog swims up to the surface of the lily-pond,
To halt the fairies, waving with his webby hand.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
Stop! You vermin, spoiling this good sunny day,
Cease! You imps or I'll send you, all three, on your way.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
The fairies laugh, ignoring him, fighting on the lily-pond:
Up comes the King with a very magic magic wand.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
Did you not hear the frog when he told you straight to stop this row?
Yes, said the fairies, he was prattling quite a bit just now.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
Well, said the monarch, since you're set on being boisterous,
Your punishment will follow at the end of all your making fuss.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
Right, said the monarch, now I give your punishment:
'He who hits the water will be down to Hades sent'.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
Oh! Said the fairies, toppling on the lily-leaf,
Oh, cried the trouble-makers, we will surely come to grief!
Huddle muddle diddle do.
Well, said the Fairy King, if you must be rude to frog,
Try your luck with Charon, and the dread three-headed dog.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
Splash! Went the fairies, on the lovely lily-pond,
Not enough lily to fully go fully round.
Huddle muddle diddle do.
