'Duo'
is a love story and a dialogue in four scenes. The dramatis personae
are A Man (played by the violin) and A Woman (played by the harp).
The Meeting, initiated by the violin, develops into a flirtatious waltz
and an awakening of tender love. Then follows Prayer a tender love-song
with a beautiful violin melody over a rocking, hypnotic harp part.
However, the course of true love never did run smooth and the music
leads next into an angry Quarrel, but after this long, violent interchange
the music suddenly breaks off and there comes a solo violin cadenza
(Lento) expressive of a touching, conciliatory regret. A final Reconciliation
(Lento) brings the dialogue to a tenderly peaceful close.
'Duo'
has been recorded by Vladimir Guentzelt (violin) and Andres Izmaylov
(harp) and is available from Creighton's Collection - see Audio
