Libero, Allegro molto; Adagio molto;
Allegro The term Sonata is not often encountered in
the harp repertoire outside the true 'classical' sonatas of the late
eighteenth century and the neo-classical sonatas of the twentieth century.
Andres Izmaylov has kept to the classic three movement sonata in his
stunning new work. The Allegro Moderato first movement is followed by
an intensely poetic, concentrated hymn-like Adagio second movement. The
third a scherzo-like Allegro - bounces along until it comes to a sudden
halt and a lunga pausa just 26 bars from the end. A very slow, rocking,
hypnotic Largo ending brings the work to a pianissimo conclusion.
