Ffarwel i Langyfelach Lon [Farewell to lovely Llangyfelach] is the song of farewell to his native village sung by a young eighteenth-century Welshman, obliged, against his will, to enlist in the cavalry regiment known as the Light Dragoons. The exhilarating sound of the fifes and the small drums used by the cavalry regiments enticed many young men to leave their home villages to fight for King and country. In this piece, the sound of the drum is imitated by tapping out its rhythm on the soundboard of the harp. |
