Lament
and Dance dates
from the summer of 1977. Written for the Irish harp, and composed
in Ireland, the piece was inspired by the magic of that wonderful
country, its musicians, its folk traditions, the nostalgia
of its melodies, and the vigour and joy of its jigs and reels.
Fascinated, on the one hand, by fixed tunings, and on the other
by the virtuoso blade-changing techniques of her Irish harpist
friends, Ann Griffiths became captivated by the infinite possibilities
of the Celtic harp.
